  • The National Popular Vote law guarantees the presidency to the candidate who wins the most popular votes nationwide.

  • The National Popular Vote law extends the principle of one person, one vote to presidential elections.

  • The Michigan House of Representatives passed the National Popular Vote Bill once and the Senate introduced it with a majority of Republican and Democratic sponsors in 2018.

  • National Popular Vote has been enacted by 15 states and the District of Columbia with 195 Electoral Votes. It will take effect when states with 270 electoral votes (a majority of the Electoral College) adopt the law.

  • National Popular Vote gives candidates a compelling reason to campaign to voters in all 50 states. Candidates did not seek votes in Michigan in 2008 and 2012 because the state was not close.
